The children trooped inside, leaving a trail of mud. The children panicked. Finally, they decided to open the door and let the unicorns run through the house. “Oh, those pesky unicorns!” said Mom. “They’ve tracked mud all through the house! And it’s all over your shoes, too!” The kids smiled. It had worked, once again.

I cannot go another day without cleaning the oven, though I haven't cleaned it for three years. Halfway through the scraping I lose interest. I wander to the fridge, locate the leftover pizza, and eat two pieces while standing with the fridge door open. Meanwhile, my half-finished manuscript languishes in my office upstairs.

Candlelight flickers and his touch makes my flesh quiver with the rough skim of his callused fingers. His question triggers overwhelming emotion. I take a deep breath and kiss him softly, tasting the smooth sweep of his lips for a long moment before peering down into his flame-graced features. Still shaking, I whisper, “Yes.”

The catch

She had fished with her father for years, but she'd never seen a creature like this. It lay before her, their fates intertwined. Its gaze made her giggle and blush, like a school girl, like the first time. She trembled. What a wonderful gift to share with her lover over a fine bottle of wine.

Her mouth opened in a soundless scream. She couldn't believe her eyes. Fear clutched at her, briging forth the most primal of all emotions. Sweat dripped into her eyes, and she blinked hard against the sting. Before her stood sheer evil--both in appearance and odor. Then the Ogre spoke. "Wanna buy some chocolate, lady?"

I stood before the dragon, watching breath from its nostrils curling soundlessly. It was waiting for my fear, watching until I would notice the way its scales rippled over muscles and its wings shimmered red in the sunset. But there was no need to fear - I am in Tolkien's realm and it is only Smaug.

Criminal trespass
-----------------
Coming home to find their home had been broken into they franticly searched the house. Nothing appeared to be missing but the home they had worked so hard for had been ransacked, violated. Upstairs they found that the criminal responsible was asleep in one of their own beds. The bears smiled, time for lunch.

The griffin rolled her eyes as she preened her mud flecked wings, anticipating, with chagrin, the task of cleaning her mud caked pads.
Vernal hunting was barely sport, it was the cleanup that challenged. Was 120 pounds of man really worth the mud you have to clean? And how dirty it got running!

So white, so pure, his wings surround me, embrace me. So tender, so loving, his hands caresses me, console me. So light, so gentle, his lips touch me, comfort me. So dark, so intent, his eyes watch me, study me. So quick, so soon, his body leaves me, abandons me. Fly away my fallen angel.

So God made horses. Then he went to a huge party. A wild one. The "Jesus-making" one. Up at heaven, he felt the effects. Blacked out right onto his horse formula. And his narwhal formula. They both fell into one bubbling mix. He groggily got up. He stared at his creation. "Oops."

I stood there next to him for what seemed an hour.
I found myself mesmerized with the way the rain ran in trails down his sun kissed skin.
I noticed how strong his hands were, and yet, they were smooth at the same time. Knowing hands. Then,he made love to me with those hands.

Some mean kids use to call Sally a cyclops, but that's not what I saw when I looked into her crossed eyes, because they was beautiful! Sometimes it was hard to tell if Sally was looking at me, or trying to look left, or right, but I loved her anyways.

Nightfall … the room is dark. The only light source is a single candle sitting on the mantle. Thunder booms! Julie jumps! “Only thunder, from the impending storm.” Scratch….Scratch….Scratch, but what is that! Julie walks across the room, swings open the door! Lucky! You old dog! You scared me! Come in out of the storm.

The hippogriff lifted its head from the mud and glared at me. “Oh, so you think you’re hot stuff, do you?” His voice reverberated inside me. He reared up and spread his wings wide, flinging mud all around. Oh, I wasn’t in Iowa anymore. What I’d do to see a cornfield right now…oh sh*t…

Screams woke me from slumber deep; rising, rubbing the dust from my eyes, reality came crashing home: fire. Screams from other rooms meant kids in trouble. Oh God, help me! Running out of my room, discovering a worse truth: this was not home, but Hell. What have I done to deserve eternal life in Hell?

Prometheus slapped the vulture ripping at his liver. The game had gone too far. Sure he told everyone that Zeus had crucified him for giving fire, but the real fire came from Aphrodite. If she didn’t get here soon, he was going to pull up stakes and go home. He shivered. Way kinky.o:)

Small, green, with pointy ears and curly toes. The hobgoblin peared at her from behind the TV cabinet. She could tell it was annoyed. It muttered at her and skittered across the floor and vanished. The next day, her milk had soured, her bread had moulded, and her dogs were naughty. Next week, she would make sure to heed his warning and make sure to watch "American Idol" all the way through.

I just had to give this contest a try, even in my wounded state.

Barth in wonderingly stared, faceted eyes sparkling as the soft licking warmth of sun bathed his scales. He daintily plucked the vision and lifted it gently for examination and a pleasant sniff. Smiling in a magical way, Barth the wee baby dragon of only 103 marveled at another newly discovered treasure of spring, the daffodil.

He smiled at his two grandchildren and told them to get their coats on to go outside. Outside they walked to the backyard, which had turned to mud from the recent rains.

"Let’s make some mud pies!" Grandpa said.

The Surprise
-
His parents hit the roof when they found out Susie was pregnant.
“How could you have let this happen?” his mother asked.
His silence only made her angrier.
“How many times do I have to tell you to think with your head?” she demanded.
“I was,” he replied. “Just not the one on my shoulders.”

A second entry if I might?

I do remember.

A child hiding beneath the mulberry bush smiles in mirthless glee. Atop the altar, and orange crate found along rivers edge, sits the treasures from the day. Some flowers in a bottle, three crayons, two pennies and a rubber band.

I hear Mom calling, “Dinners ready!”

Oh, the times were simpler then.

The warm orange glow he passionately despised melted into the horizon. Another night of hunting began. Hunger pains convulsed his body, reminding him of his curse. Her open window was an invitation. He begged forgiveness as her thick warm liquid of life oozed down his throat, barely quenching his hunger. He would need much more.
